The second sequence in this book takes a gears-based approach to understand how and why we make decisions. We often do what we want, but often we do the opposite - we act in spite of our aspirations and goals. An economist might break this down and say that what we really do represents our true goals, our ‘revealed preferences’. However, this sequence will look at decision making from the perspective of neuroscience, and look at hypotheses that suggest our brain is much more complex, and made of different parts that combine to make our final selves.
