[Classifieds] What are you doing to make the world a better place and how can we help?
I was pretty impressed with the classifieds thread over at SSC.
One common perception I see about the 'rationalist' community is that we're talkers, not doers. But I suspect we may have a large number of people who are doing but not talking.
So in this thread I'd like to invite you to tell us about a project or effort you're making to improve the world around you, even if it's not necessarily Effective Altruism or similar grand world-spanning goals.
For best results it would be good if we could all stick to a common format, I propose:
Title/One Sentence Summary: What the project or effort is, in brief.
Description: What it is you're doing and other related details.
Impact: What kind of impact or outcome you expect successful completion of the project to have.
How we can help: Ways for people in the LessWrong community to possibly help you with it if they're interested.
I can't wait to hear about your efforts.
I'm writing a book on cancer research -- how it's stagnated in recent decades, and what new research directions might offer more promise.
My hope is to influence funders (primarily investors) towards focusing on more diverse types of cancer treatments.
How people can help:
I'm looking for an agent. (I have a draft and a book proposal.) If anybody has contacts, I'd much appreciate it.
